Lit Fest 2010

LIT FEST

17 - 19 MARCH

Welcome to the ninth Festival of Young Adult and Children's Literature.

Since 2002 the Festival has provided growing opportunities for students and the wider community to focus on the value literature brings to our everyday lives.

Author Phillip Pullman once said “….'Once upon a time' lasts forever”.

Making eager readers of children is the first important step towards making adults who read with skill and joy, who read for information and pleasure, and who have access to all the wealth contained within the written word.  Good young adult and children's literature not only appeals to the child, but to the child in the adult.

It is not enough to simply teach children to read.  To open a book and give them something worth reading provides a key to unlocking a child's imagination.  Books open a doorway to "everything in the world and beyond, everything that could be dreamed and imagined, everything that could be known, and everything that could be hoped.  Books become balm and refuge, magic chariot and decoder ring, periscope and time machine".  (Lee Sherman)

Join our 2010 presenters as they take us on many journeys - some factual, some confronting and some deep into our imaginations.
