Appointment of 2027 College Captains

We are delighted to announce that Year 11 students Asher and Grace have been elected to represent the College as the College Captains for 2027. We congratulate them on this significant achievement and eagerly anticipate the positive impact they will have in the upcoming academic year.

Asher writes:

As an 11-year-old, you would always look up to the older kids and think, ‘that’s ages away for me’, yet we never truly realise how fast time flies. I told myself this lie five years ago when I joined All Saints’ College at the beginning of Year 7.

I still vividly remember attending a Year 7 transition activity for the class of 2027 before we were formally introduced to high school. I remember clinging to my dad’s arm, begging for him to let me go home, with the only thought running through my head being: ‘Get me out of here’. I was incredibly nervous. I kept thinking of whether I’d be liked or whether I’d forever be the “new kid”. After quite a few consolations from my dad, I managed to pull the courage to give the program a go. Looking back now, it’s funny to think that since that day, I have never felt nervous about walking through the gates of All Saints’ again.

All Saints’ College is no ordinary school. It is a school that has taught me there is far more to life than just academics alone. Through the performing arts, sport, service opportunities, and countless co-curricular experiences, I have been able to discover passions and opportunities that I never would have imagined as a young student arriving from a small public primary school.

What surprised me the most, however, was the sense of community. As a child, I held the belief that teachers mainly cared about grades and academic results. Instead, I found a school where teachers genuinely take the time to build relationships with students, where staff know you as a person, and where people truly want you to succeed. Over the years, that support has made All Saints’ feel less like a school and more like a family.

Throughout the past five years, this college has given me more than I could ever repay. It has provided opportunities that have challenged me,

experiences that have shaped me, and friendships that I know will last long beyond my time here. I have created countless memories, both good and bad, and every one of them has played a part in making me the person I am today.

If you had told that nervous Year 7 student clinging to his dad’s arm that one day he would have the privilege of serving as College Captain, he would never have believed you. Yet it is the support, opportunities, and people I have found at All Saints’ that have given me the confidence to step into the role.

As College Captain, I hope to give back to a community that has given me so much. I hope to contribute positively to college life, support students across all year levels, and help create the same sense of belonging that made such a difference to me when I first arrived. It is a privilege to be even considered for this role, and I am very excited to be All Saints’ College Captain for 2027 alongside Grace, and I look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.

Grace writes:

I joined All Saints’ College in 2018 as a Year 3 student. If 8-year-old Grace could see into the future, she would not believe the person she has become and the communities she is lucky enough to be a part of. Little would she know she’d become that person because of All Saints’ College. Coming into a new school, I was extremely nervous. I’d constantly ask my parents why I had to change school; I was terrified of not knowing anyone. I remember sitting in the back of the class, homesick, scared, and unsure about my new environment. However, this anxiety about starting at a new school quickly disappeared once I got to meet the wonderful teachers and students at the College. All Saints’ College instantly made me feel comfortable in my own skin and allowed me to grow and express myself. I am forever grateful for the opportunities and kindness the school has provided, which have allowed me to become my own person.

If All Saints’ College has taught me anything, it would be to follow your dreams. That we are all capable of anything we put our minds to. The culture of staff and students at this school is so supportive and nurturing, and they push us to be the best we can be. I distinctly remember in Year 4, everyone created clubs based on their interests. It wasn’t a formal

school program to do so, but everyone just wanted to contribute something they loved. We would present them to the class at the start of the day, telling people about what we’d do and why. Personally, I loved the idea and had so many clubs across the year. I had a drawing club, space club, rock club, singing club… You name it, and I probably made a club out of it! I think that is a perfect example of how, from a young age, All Saints’ fostered growth and exploration in all of us. They encouraged us to pursue our hobbies and build connections with our classmates.

College Captain to me is more than just a title or a badge. It is an opportunity to give back to the school that has given me so much more than simply an education. It has taught me more than academics and studying. It has taught me how to communicate, how to connect, and how to express myself. School has taught me to follow my passions and show persistence. Teaching me real-world lessons that will benefit me for years beyond schooling.

I am extremely grateful and excited to represent the college as one of the 2027 College Captains. I hope to follow in the footsteps of my predecessors by continuing to foster the true sense of community and connection that this school is so rich in. I know there will be some big shoes to fill with the excellent leadership of Ebonnie and Eli. As College Captain, I hope to create meaningful changes within our school community and continue to foster individuality in everyone. I look forward to working with the student council, teachers, Mr. Jones, and my co-captain, Asher, in all our endeavours. I aspire to be a College Captain who harbours positivity, connection, creativity, and most importantly, the values of ERIC.
