ASC Leading the Way with New Metrics
All Saints’ College is proud to be at the forefront of redefining education in Western Australia. As the first school in the state to join the University of Melbourne’s New Metrics program, we’ve been championing a transformative approach to learning for the past five years.
But what exactly is New Metrics, and why is it making waves in the education sector?
“New Metrics is providing a competency-based education for learners, which are the skills and capabilities to allow students to thrive at school and beyond,” explains Shannon Armitage, ASC’s Director of Senior School (Teaching and Learning).
At its core, New Metrics shifts the focus from traditional academic results to a more holistic view of student success. By prioritising the development, assessment and recognition of key competencies—such as critical thinking, collaboration and adaptability—the program aims to equip students with the tools they need for a thriving future.
One of the most exciting elements of New Metrics is the nationally recognised credential awarded by the University of Melbourne. This credential acknowledges not just academic achievements but also the vital skills students develop throughout their education, preparing them for the challenges of life beyond school.
“Credentialing is really a co-warranted process between ASC and the Melbourne Metrics team,” said Shannon. “The credential is a measure of students progress against the various competencies and is a tangible piece of evidence that they can leave a transition point with."
In 2025, ASC will continue to credential our Year 6 students and credential our first group of Year 12s.
In the video below, Shannon is joined by Jayne Johnston, Enterprise Fellow in Melbourne Metrics from the University of Melbourne, who share their insights into the program and its profound impact on students and educators alike.
Stay tuned as we continue to lead the way in redefining education for a brighter, more dynamic future.
