ASC Teacher Awarded Churchill Fellowship
James Pengelley, one of our dedicated teachers, has been awarded a 2025 Park Family Churchill Fellowship – a prestigious opportunity that supports Australians to travel overseas and investigate innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

James’s Fellowship project will explore how enhancing teacher professional identity can be a powerful strategy to attract and retain teachers in Australia. His research will focus on international initiatives that validate and elevate teachers’ professional expertise, with the aim of informing systemic approaches that strengthen the teaching pipeline and support long-term career satisfaction.
James is a certified Highly Accomplished teacher, researcher and teacher educator with experience teaching students aged 4 to 70 across five countries. He played a central role in establishing the Western Australian Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher Network in 2024 and has published widely on topics including ICT in education, sociolinguistics and cognitive science.
The Churchill Fellowship, now in its 60th year, is awarded to 100 Australians annually who are passionate about making a difference in their communities. Fellows design their own international research itinerary and learn directly from global experts, bringing back insights that drive change in their fields
Past Churchill Fellows have contributed to initiatives such as Crime Stoppers, Neighbourhood Watch and Questacon. James joins this legacy of changemakers and we are proud to support him as he embarks on this exciting journey!
