Exploring Possibilities Beyond Year 10 at Futures Day

Year 10 students recently took part in Futures Day, a full-day program designed to support them as they begin thinking about their next steps beyond school. The day offered a valuable opportunity for students to explore future pathways, ask questions to industry professionals and consider how their interests, skills and values might shape their choices after Year 10.

The day began with a keynote address from Mason Bagios, CEO and founder of Kommunity Brew, a Western Australian-based brewery producing kombucha and other beverages Mason shared his personal journey, reflecting on his high school years, the jobs he worked before becoming an entrepreneur and how each experience contributed to where he is today. He encouraged students to embrace tenacity, have the courage to take risks and not fear failure or judgment. He also spoke about the power of attitude in keeping doors open and creating opportunities. Students engaged with Mason through thoughtful questions about work ethic, goal setting and resilience, gaining insight into what it takes to forge your own path.

Throughout the day, students heard from current Year 11 and 12 students, College staff and representatives from universities, TAFEs and industry. They were encouraged to reflect on what motivates them and how to make informed decisions about subject selection, career options and tertiary education.

The afternoon featured a wide range of breakout sessions run by industry professionals, giving students insight into careers across health, law, trades, creative industries, engineering, education, defence and more. These sessions helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications, offering students first-hand perspectives from people working in their fields of interest.

Futures Day is one of many initiatives at the College aimed at supporting student agency and preparing young people for life beyond school, wherever their path may lead.
