Fighting the Fill: Containers For Change Bins Introduced at ASC

With a focus on sustainability and environmental initiatives, All Saints’ College is committed to reducing environmental impact across all areas of the College.

After All Saints’ introduced the three-bin system in 2019 to help reduce waste and educate the community, ASC has now added Containers for Change bins to the mix to help make a positive difference in our world.

Containers for Change provides people with the opportunity to help the planet by allowing people to claim a 10-cent refund for every eligible beverage container they deposit. Most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and liquid paperboard containers between 150ml and 3L are eligible for a refund.

Around the campus, students can place their containers into the bins which will then be deposited by the Facilities Team at a refund point. The money raised will fund an All Saints’ College Sustainability Grant—available for students and community members to support on campus sustainability and environmentally-focused initiatives or projects.

In WA, more than 1.3 billion eligible drink containers are thrown away each year; enough drink containers to line a path from Perth to Broome. The Containers for Change scheme aims to keep commonly littered containers out of landfill, ensuring they are properly recycled to live another life, and educate West Australians about recycling and the environmental impacts of waste.
