This month, Year 7 student Eeishu joined some of WA's brightest minds at the 2024 Western Australian Innovators of the Year Awards. Representing the next generation of creative thinkers, Eeishu attended the event to celebrate the announcement of an exciting new award category for young innovators, launching in 2025 with sponsorship from the Young Entrepreneurs Academy of WA. This new category signals the state’s commitment to fostering the fresh ideas and entrepreneurial drive of young people across WA.
As part of this celebration, Eeishu engaged in a conversation with the awards' Patron, Winthrop Professor Fiona Wood AO. Inspired by Professor Wood’s pioneering work in treating burns patients, Eeishu learned firsthand about the impact of creative approaches to medical challenges. For Eeishu and other young innovators, the event was not only a chance to connect with leading professionals but also to envision their own futures as change-makers in Western Australia.
This year’s event was especially significant, as Professor Wood had previously asked where the young innovators were. Now, just a few years later, students like Eeishu had the chance to stand in front of her, learning directly from her story and approach to innovation. As All Saints' College continues to support and nurture young innovators, Eeishu’s experience highlights the powerful connections that events like these create for students ready to make their mark in the world.
Earlier this year, Eeishu was named as a finalist for the 2024 Next Gen Award’s Young Innovator of the Year for her invention, ‘The EXTRA automated garage door'. Her invention utilises number plate recognition, smartphones and voice assistants to open garage doors automatically, aiming to simplify access for everyone, especially the elderly and physically challenged.
Eeishu received our Innovation and Entrepreneurship Scholarship in 2023.
