InnovatED Empowers Young Innovators to Learn with Purpose

This term, Year 7 and 8 students at All Saints’ College have embarked on a purposeful journey of creativity, critical thinking and real-world problem-solving through the InnovatED program. With student voice and choice at its core, the program enables learners to pursue personalised pathways aligned with their interests and strengths, encouraging exploration, collaboration and meaningful creation.

Students selected from a range of engaging “Explorer Types,” including The Future Architect, The Story Keeper, The Game Maker, and The World Architect. Each pathway presents a distinct challenge, from reimagining Perth in 2050 and designing symbolic artworks inspired by Indigenous knowledge, to developing immersive fantasy worlds, prototyping original board games and 3D-printing legendary heroes and villains.

Led by Director of Design Hub Mr Steven Scotti, the InnovatED program is grounded in future-focused learning. Under his guidance, students are not only engaging in creative pursuits but also adopting the mindset of designers, innovators and ethical problem-solvers.

Throughout the term, students have worked alongside industry professionals and specialists to deepen their learning and apply their thinking in authentic contexts. In the Dice Dynamics pathway, Troy Green from Hit Dragons Dice delivered a hands-on workshop in which students learned to pour resin, mix pigments, embed items, and safely cure their own custom dice, gaining insight into both the science and craftsmanship behind high-quality game components.

Meanwhile, students involved in the Wetlands Gabbiljee Project benefited from the expertise of Mr Nick Fletcher, Head of Outdoor Learning, whose deep connection to the project helped students explore the environmental significance of wetlands, and guided their investigations into sustainability, conservation, and ecological health.

More than a creative outlet, InnovatED is a platform for developing the key capabilities that underpin lifelong learning. Students are strengthening their agency by making meaningful decisions in their learning, thinking critically and creatively to address real-world issues. They are acting ethically, through projects grounded in sustainability, wellbeing and cultural respect, while building communication and collaboration skills by sharing ideas and co-creating with peers and mentors.

As the term progresses, InnovatED continues to empower students to imagine boldly, design thoughtfully and lead their learning with clarity and purpose.
