Junior School Navigates the Digital World with Tech Trek 2025

On Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 February, our Year 4 and Year 5 students embarked on an exciting journey with Tech Trek, an event designed to inspire them to explore the digital world while upholding our core values of empathy, respect, integrity, and courage (ERIC).

The first day began with a welcoming address from Mr Christie, followed by an informative session on the importance of device care. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as our Year 4 and new Year 5 students received their iPads and Apple Pencils, while our returning Year 5 students participated in interactive skills workshops. Later, all students gathered for an insightful Online Safety Webinar presented by the E-Safety Commission, where they learned essential strategies to navigate the digital world safely. The day concluded with a creative session, during which students used Apple tools to design unique class logos.

On the second day, students reflected on the key takeaways from the webinar and created animations to illustrate the E-Safety Commission’s Top Five Tips. They then collaborated in class groups to develop algorithms addressing potential challenges they might encounter when using their iPads at school. Finally, students worked through their Digital Passports, further enhancing their understanding of device care and fostering responsible digital citizenship practices.

Overall, Tech Trek 2025 was a resounding success, providing our students with both an enjoyable and enriching experience. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to develop their digital skills and confidence, setting a strong foundation for their future endeavours in the digital world.
