Retirement of Ms Penelope Crane

It is with deep appreciation that I share the news that Ms Penelope Crane will retire from her role as Director of Junior School at the end of this year, following 17 years of exceptional service to All Saints’ College.

Across her tenure, Ms Crane has shaped the Junior School with vision, courage, and an unwavering commitment to the growth and wellbeing of every child. Her leadership has left a lasting impact on our practice and culture.

One of her most significant contributions was the review of the Junior School’s Educational Philosophy in 2011. From this, she led the introduction of Inquiry Learning, followed by Visible Thinking and Harvard Thinking Routines. These approaches, later strengthened by Design Thinking and the development of the ASC Capabilities, are now embedded in our daily practice and remain defining features of an All Saints’ Junior School education.

Ms Crane has also cultivated a professional culture defined by respect, high expectations and a belief in the potential of every child. She has recruited and developed outstanding educators who are reflective, purposeful, and committed to continual improvement in both learning and wellbeing outcomes.

Another of Ms Crane’s most significant achievements has been the development of Little Saints, our evidence-based and purpose-built childcare. Under her leadership, a bespoke Three-Year-Old Kindergarten was introduced and aligned with the College’s Early Learning Philosophy. Little Saints has strengthened community connections, supported staff families and become an important pathway for emerging Early Learning educators. Importantly, it is now an integral part of the College.

As Ms Crane prepares to conclude her service, we thank her for her vision, leadership, and dedication. She leaves the Junior School in a strong position for the future.

We will now commence a comprehensive, nationwide search to appoint the next Director of Junior School. This will be a highly sought-after opportunity to build on the foundation Ms Crane has established.

We will celebrate Ms Crane’s contribution to the College community later in the year. In the meantime, I know you will join me in thanking Penny for her outstanding contribution and wishing her well for the future.
