Students Ventured to Cambodia on Life-Changing Service-Learning Tour

Over the two weeks of the school holidays, a group of dedicated students from All Saints' College and The Studio School had the extraordinary opportunity to embark on a service-learning tour to Cambodia. This immersive experience was not only about exploring a new culture but also about giving back to the local community in meaningful and impactful ways.

The tour kicked off with the students soaking in the vibrant culture of Cambodia. From exploring lively night markets and indulging in local delicacies to learning about Cambodia's rich history, they experienced a whirlwind of activities. One of the highlights was their visit to the Phnom Tamao Free the Bears sanctuary, where they learned about the sun bears and moon bears, two species vital to Cambodia’s wildlife conservation efforts. They also had the chance to experience the energetic Phare Circus, a beautiful blend of Cambodian culture and creativity.

As their service-learning mission began, our students truly showcased their passion for making a difference. Partnering with Water for Cambodia, they helped install sand filters in rural villages, providing clean and safe drinking water for families in need. Their efforts didn’t stop there - working alongside Volunteer Building Cambodia, they participated in the construction of a new home. In just two days, they had painted, built, and proudly handed over the keys to a family, leaving a lasting impact on both the community and themselves.

The tour continued with students visiting the Treak Community Centre, where they ran educational activities for local children. They also took part in a sustainability initiative, turning recycled plastic into eco-friendly bricks used to build homes. These activities fostered a strong sense of teamwork, creativity, and a deepened awareness of global environmental issues.

Their final days were packed with unforgettable moments. Students helped plant fruit trees for a local family, providing both food and a source of income. They then hiked through the ancient Phnom Kulen, exploring historical carvings and cooling off in the sacred springs and Kulen Waterfall. A magical night in Bong Thom Village followed, where they enjoyed traditional Khmer music and dancing.

The adventure wrapped up with an incredible 23km cycling tour around the famous Angkor temples. From the majestic Bayon to the iconic Ta Prohm and Angkor Wat, our students marvelled at the architectural wonders and history of Cambodia’s most famous sites.

Returning home with full hearts and open minds, these All Saints’ College students have not only deepened their understanding of Cambodian culture but also left a lasting legacy through their service work. Their resilience, compassion, and dedication to creating positive change have made us all incredibly proud.
