Welcoming Alan Black as Basketball Coordinator for 2026

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Alan Black as our Basketball Coordinator for 2026.

Alan is no stranger to our community, having served as an ASC staffer in 1987–1988 and more recently as a valued relief staff member. With nearly four decades of coaching experience at the highest levels of basketball, Alan brings a wealth of expertise, leadership and passion to the role.

His impressive career includes:

  • Assistant Coach for the Australian Men’s Team at the Atlanta and Sydney Olympics and the 1998 World Championships in Athens
  • Head Coach of four NBL teams: Perth Wildcats, Sydney Kings, Illawarra Hawks and Cairns Taipans
  • NBL Championship Coach with the Perth Wildcats in 1999/2000
  • NBL Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1994
  • Architect and coach of school basketball programs at Willetton SHS and Darling Range Sports College
  • WA State Coach across all junior levels, most recently leading the U16 WA State Country Boys to the medal rounds at the 2025 National Championships which earned him the WA High Performance Coach of the Year

Alan is known for cultivating strong team culture and inspiring young athletes to grow in skill, teamwork and character. We are confident that his leadership will continue to build on the remarkable foundation laid by Russ Haxby while bringing his own depth of experience to support and grow our basketball program.

As we welcome Alan, we also take a heartfelt moment to farewell Russ Haxby, whose impact on our basketball community has been profound. Russ is deeply loved by students, families and staff alike—not just for his coaching excellence, but for his unwavering kindness, mentorship and dedication to every player’s journey.
