In 2023, the College invited expressions of interest from ASC alumni with IT / cyber security expertise to be the Old Saints’ nominee on the Board, following the expiration of Old Saint Mark Balding’s stellar nine-year term.
We are delighted to announce that, from a strong field of interest, Karen Geappen (nee Sheh, Class of 2000) has been appointed to the College Board.
Karen is Director Governance, Risk and Compliance, and Director AI Risk, at Anchoram Consulting, where she provides various clients with risk advice and guidance on current and future technologies. Prior to this, Karen has held senior cyber risk and governance roles in industries such as tertiary education, mining, government, and critical infrastructure, including as Head of Cyber Governance for Hydo Tasmania, and IT Security Advisor for the Attorney-General’s Department in Canberra.
Karen holds a Masters of Cyber Security, Strategy and Diplomacy, a Graduate Diploma in Strategy and Management (both from UNSW (Canberra), and a Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours). Karen also holds governance certifications and memberships, and contributes to Australian and international AI ethics and risk governance forums and standards bodies.
Karen has two sons in ASC’s Junior School and she describes her appointment to the College Board as “an exciting opportunity to give back to the College and help make a positive contribution to an institution that has positively influenced so many people including myself.”
